More than 1,000 individual forensic experts assessed

The NRGD has reached an impressive milestone: more than 1,000 ‘unique’ individual forensic experts, active in more than 12 fields of expertise, have been assessed one or more times.

The NRGD began standardising various fields of expertise in 2009. In the first few years, it worked on standardising the following fields of expertise: DNA Analysis; Forensic Psychiatry, Forensic Psychology and Forensic Child and Youth Care Sciences (FPPO); Handwriting Analysis; and Forensic Toxicology. In 2010, the initial individual forensic experts in these fields of expertise were also assessed and the register was opened up. Over the following years, the NRGD has standardised on average one new field of expertise a year and opened it up for registration. Forensic experts in more than 12 fields of expertise (and subfields) can now undergo assessment by the NRGD.

The Register contains not only Dutch experts, but also a number of international experts, who were included in the register following an assessment of their professional knowledge and expertise. These include experts who work e.g. in Digital Forensics, Handwriting Analysis and Forensic Pathology.

The NRGD will grow further in the coming years. In 2024, the NRGD will expand the register further with the following fields of expertise: Bloodstain Pattern Analysis, Forensic Financial Investigation and Forensic Radiology.
