Consultation Bloodstain Pattern Analysis Standards

The draft Standards Bloodstain Pattern Analysis (BPA) will be on the NRGD website from October 5th until November 5th. During this period, both experts working in this field of expertise and users of the register are given the opportunity to take note of the contents of this document and to respond to it.

In recent months, the Bloodstain Pattern Analysis (BPA) advisory committee for standards has been working on creating a draft of the BPA Standards. These Standards lists the tasks and competencies that are expected of an expert to be assessed and registered in the NRGD.

NRGD asks experts working in this field of expertise and users of the register to review the Standards Bloodstain Pattern Analysis (BPA) and to pay extra attention to the following questions:

  • How many reports must an expert prepare on average per year to maintain his/her expertise?
  • To what extent should the blood trail patterns be classified to make a proper choice in sampling for DNA analysis?
  • Can an expert assign a specific numerical/verbal probability based on their expertise when evaluating hypotheses at the activity level?

The standards advisory committee consists of the following members:

D. Beaumont
J Millington
G. Leak
J Morris
M. van der Scheer
J. Limborgh
D. Doensen

NRGD would like to receive your response no later than November 5th on e-mail address deskundigenregister@nrgd.nl (for the attention of dr. N. Laan). The NRGD will consider the responses received, together with the advisory committee for standards.
